The cathedral is a classic example of the area's Romanesque design.
It was begun in 1059, but was largely rebuilt 60 years later after Parma was hit by an earthquake.
The visit to this city could start from the main square, where you can see the Romanesque Dome, rebuilt in XII century, with a bell-tower of 1284 and 3rd century chapels on the left side;
It is decorated with wonderful sculptures: Giambono da Bissone's columns and lions; the inside has three naves and 11th century capitals.
In this square, you can also admire You can admire one of the greatest masterpieces of Renaissance art "Assunzione della Vergine" painted by Antonio Allegri, known as Correggio (1489-1534).
